“Job Fairs – The Do’s and Don’ts”

 Dress for the job you want; good, conservative grooming is essential.

 Speak clearly and directly.

Answer questions honestly, and ask good questions yourself.

Make eye contact.

Shake hands firmly and use appropriate body language - in other words, keep hands out of your pockets.

Anticipate questions and prepare well.

Know your resume and be able to quickly articulate your strengths.

 Pursuing a prospective employer is essential after that first meeting.

Once you get an employer's business card, make a note on the back. Write down details, what was said, what the next step is.  

Make sure you follow up. Fill out an application, if they're available. You'll usually need a second interview. 

Second interviews are key because not many people get immediate offers at a job fair. 

Network and learn - Your goal is to find out what positions are available," You want to network and gain knowledge about what's out there.

This is a good way to get your foot in the door. 

Bring a resume, letters of reference, recommendations, and a personal card. You want something that will get you into a company's tracking system.
